The Overland Camper

The Overland Camper

noun: portmanteau of Unimog and Tortoise, from being a slow Unimog that carries its own house.

Welcome!

This site doesn't contain much at the moment, but hopefully we will be filling out the content as we go along. For now, we're pleased that the website exists!

The Mogtoise

The truck started its career in 1987 by joining the German Army where she served well and was eventually given permanent R n' R. She came into our possession in the summer of 2019 and and we have been working on converting her to an overland camper since then.
We started with the cab and a few other upgrades, then we started chopping up the original flatbed to build the floor. We are currently in the process of building the skeleton for the habitation box.
All of the tasks are in our very detailed YouTube videos.
The truck is pretty much all standard and original. It's a Unimog U1300L with the 6 litre 6 cylinder OM366A (turbo, no intercooler) engine with ~100kW. It's got the basic 8-speed transmission and no modifications to the drivetrain. She's currently sitting on 335/80-R20 tyres which we'll probably have to replace before active use.

This site

Our plans are to populate this site with all the information that we can about the truck, but right now this is all we have. Expect this site to change often and a lot. 🤞🏻
